Hello all!

It's been a while since we last updated this blog and I want to first of all take this opportunity to apologise for that.

2016 was a rollercoaster of a year, but now that 2017 has properly gotten into its stride, I think things are pointing to a very interesting year for all of us.

Here at Stranger, we have spent the first two months planning and I am very excited to present our new format to you all.

New opening times

In a nod to our first year, we are going back to being open solely by appointment whenever we are not hosting an event or activity of some sort. Starting today, we will still operate as a store, shared workspace, café and multipurpose space, but now, if you want to take advantage of any of the things we offer, you have to let us know in advance before you come through. From a business perspective, this helps us keep our overheads manageable and reduces waste and you benefit from our increased efficiency in terms of services and facilities since we can now target our spending and focus on what makes the most sense to users.

We are also planning a big shift towards and event-based format with a lot of pop-up events ranging from fashion to food to lifestyle lined up throughout the year. I think you will be very pleased and hopefully also pleasantly surprised with the variety of activities we have planned. Knowing that we don't have to disrupt the daily flow of the store in order to host these events gives us a lot of flexibility, and we are really looking forward to hosting our regular yoga classes in partnership with Stacey, our regular game night, Film Sundays and much much more.

Stranger subscription plans

In addition to our new opening times, we are launching a membership program called the Stranger society. You can find out more about it here, but in summary, not only do you get a whole bunch of access to preview events, discounts on shopping, free coffee & tea, access to a special design and resource focused newsletter and our book library, a standing invitation to focused work days hosted in the store and much more, you also get to help keep us running the space. If any of those things sound good to you, then do check out the membership manual or head on to our monthly or annual subscription pages right now.

Weekly Events

We have a whole host of pop-up events lined up for the year, but every week we plan to have something for you to do in our space.

Yoga with Stacey

Stacey will be continuing her weekly yoga classes in the space on Wednesdays from 7pm. Be sure to keep an eye out on her Instagram and ours for any announcements of special yoga classes throughout the month as well.

Game Night

Our weekly game night has now moved from Friday nights to Thursday nights at 7pm. We will be expanding our range of boardgames starting with the inclusion of social bluffing game The Resistance, Submarine team-battler Captain Sonar, and the awesome party game Spyfall 2 among a whole host of others.

Our first game night of 2017 will be on the 9th of March 2017. Mark your calendars!

Saturdays with The Fish Lady

The Fish Lady is a new addition to our weekly calendar. Not only is she my assistant, she also makes a mean grilled fish in the Cameroonian style. Come join us on Saturday as she serves grilled tilapia, croaker and/or catfish with chips and grilled plantain and some other Cameroonian street food.

This Saturday (4th of March) will be the first time this is open to the public so we urge you to come early and bring a friend or three.

Remember to check out our calendar to keep up to date and subscribe to our newsletter.

I believe 2017 is a year of great opportunity, but we won't be able to harness our full potential if we continue to attempt to go it alone. Building or becoming part of resilient communities is the smartest thing to do right now and I am hoping Stranger will be a big part of that, whether that is in fashion, design, art or something else we may not have even thought of.

Thanks so much for being one of the people that has supported us throughout our three years of business and we look forward to many more years to come.
